The module shows how to check for responsiveness and breathing difficulties in patients, and exactly what methods should be applied in each situation. We also examine the uses of an AED and what role it can play in the resuscitation of a child.

The importance of accident reporting is examined as well.

In Module Three, we look at the way in which First Aid personnel should take charge during incidents and guide events. This naturally leads to the recommended actions to take during an emergency, where they will be influential in conducting safety during accidents involving fire, electricity, and water. This module also emphasises the need for self-safety as a First-Aider.

In Module Four, we look at the importance of a Primary Survey during an incident. It emphasises the importance of recording and understanding all the information that can be taken from the casualty and the incident. The module also instructs the way a Recovery Position can be applied to a patient.

Module Five explains the purpose of a Secondary Survey and why it may not always be necessary. It covers the benefits of a more protracted examination and detailed investigation into an incident. We explain the procedural steps of the survey and just how much it can influence the treatment of the casualty.

Module Six comprehensively describes the most commonly used First Aid techniques. We cover the “Chain of Survival”, and the key recommendations in an emergency. The components of a First Aid kit are also explored, with descriptions of how to apply dressings, bandages, and slings. The life-extending procedures involving CPR and AEDs are highlighted as well.

Module Seven describes the majority of minor injuries that a First-Aider can expect to encounter. It looks at the wide variety of common ailments and wounds that can occur easily, and how best to deal with them. The module also highlights the injuries that can escalate in severity and what to do to ensure the safety of the casualty.

Module Eight starts to cover the Secondary Illnesses that a First-Aider can come across. This module specifically explains the actions required when an adult, child, or baby becomes unconscious. It also goes into detail on how to check for breathing problems and apply resuscitation techniques.

Module Nine continues the theme of treating Secondary illness in a casualty. This module covers the conditions that can cause severe breathing difficulties in an individual, how they should be appropriately treated, and when emergency services should become involved.

This covers a range of issues from complications caused by excessive bleeding, to the effects of Epilepsy, and the causes of Heart Attacks. The module also covers the different types of diabetes, and what causes the body to go into shock.

We will look at the main microbiological hazards, allergenic hazards, physical hazards, and chemical hazards. We look at the potential impact of them contaminating foodstuffs and explore various ways to control for them in practice.

You will learn about the conditions under which food becomes contaminated with bacterial growth. We will also look at temperature control, the Danger Zone, controlling time, low and high-risk foods, controlling microbiological hazards, food deliveries, refrigeration and pests.

In this module we will look into hand hygiene, hand washing, hair hygiene, body hygiene and bad habits, personal protective equipment (PPE), and reporting illnesses.

We look at why cleaning is important, good practice around waste management, cleaning and disinfection, the concept of clean as you go, keeping dishwashers clean, and the requirement for scheduled cleaning.

Level 2 Food Hygiene and Safety

In Module 1, you will learn what is expected of you under the law as a food handler and learn about the key UK legislation governing food handling and preparation. You will also gain an understanding of how this law is enforced and what will happen if anyone in your business breaks these laws.

Module 2 covers the most prevalent and tenacious hazard in food safety, which is food poisoning and its primary cause: microbiological contamination. We will examine the different types of food poisoning caused by bacteria, viruses or moulds entering food and spreading illnesses and diseases, or introducing toxins. You will also learn how to prevent microbes from making food harmful and what the law has to say about your responsibilities and obligations.

    Course Curriculum

This course starts off with a bang, by explaining what COSHH is, and what it does and does not cover. You’ll even discover what the COSHH symbols are and why they are important for identifying hazardous substances. This is the module which looks at the different categories of hazardous substances that can be found in the workplace. It also focuses on where these substances can be found and what effects they can cause on human health.

Module two begins to bring our awareness to the finer details of the COSHH legislation and also introduces the learner into other legislation which influences or supports COSHH. This information includes details of COSHH ‘guidance notes’ and ‘Approved Code of Practice,’ which is the basic outline describing what an employer needs to do to comply with COSHH.

This is where we take a closer look at the short term, midterm and long term implications of the effects of hazardous substances, and how exactly, they can cause harm. We also show the learner what implications acute and chronic exposure brings and who is at risk.

This module really helps the learner to understand what substances can cause asthma, fire, dangerous environments and more. It also brings more detail and information on warning labels and introduces the learner into chemical safety data sheets.

Module 5 is very focused on an important aspect of COSHH – the assessment processes. In this module, the learner will understand what COSHH assessments are and why they are necessary.

They’ll also learn step by step why each aspect of the assessment process is important and what considerations need to be made to complete the assessment adequately.

As you will discover in module 6, control measures are sophisticated and require a lot of thought and continual monitoring and management of them. If a control measure fails, then the health of the employees is at risk. It’s a big deal.

This is the last module in the COSHH training course, and it’s sort of like the icing on the top of the cake. It teaches the learner how to select, implement and maintain control measures. It also explains in more detail how to plan for emergencies and the reasons why health surveillance implementation might be something that employers may need to consider.
