Course Curriculum

Module One introduces the basic principles of First Aid and the important responsibilities that a First-Aider must own. It covers the do’s and don’ts of first aid and how to apply the basic first first aid techniques in case of injuries and ailments.

In Module Two, we look at the way in which First Aid personnel should take charge during incidents and guide events. This naturally leads to the recommended actions to take during an emergency, where they will be influential in conducting safety during accidents involving fire, electricity, and water. This module also emphasises the need for self-safety as a First-Aider.

In Module Three, we look at the importance of a Primary Survey during an incident. It emphasises the importance of recording and understanding all the information that can be taken from the casualty and the incident. The module also instructs the way a Recovery Position can be applied to a patient.

Module Four explains the purpose of a Secondary Survey and why it may not always be necessary. It covers the benefits of a more protracted examination and detailed investigation into an incident. We explain the procedural steps of the survey and just how much it can influence the treatment of the casualty.

In Module Five, we run through the symptoms, causes and treatments of the most common ailments that can affect a child. This includes all-too-frequent occurrences like stings and burns, along with life-affecting conditions such as Diabetes and Anaphylaxis. The module also looks at rarer incidents such as Frostbite and Heatstroke, and exactly what you should do to relieve the child’s condition.

Module Six examines the more complex medical conditions that can seriously affect the well-being of a child. You’ll learn the cause and effect of serious illnesses such as Sickle-Cell Anaemia and Meningitis, as well as understanding exactly what to do if a child suffers from symptoms. We also explain the existence of Febrile Convulsions, along with more recognisable conditions such as Asthma and food poisoning.

In Module Seven, we look at the way CPR can be applied to two sets of distinctive age groups, that of adults and children . The module shows how to check for responsiveness and breathing difficulties in patients, and exactly what methods should be applied in each situation. We also examine the uses of an AED and what role it can play in the resuscitation of a child.

In Module Eight, we will learn what constitutes a medical emergency, with guidance on what to do if a person is suffering from a heart attack, stroke, asthma attack and other life-threatening emergencies.

In this final module, we will learn about best practice procedures you need to keep in mind when providing first aid, such as removing clothing and headgear safely. It also includes essential information on permission and consent.
