Course Curriculum for Paediatric First Aid Training

Module one introduces the basic principles of First Aid when applied specifically to children and infants. It also looks at the key responsibilities for a Paediatric First-Aider, and how these apply to public places and community properties. The extreme importance of preventing cross-infection and operating within the bounds of public safety is covered as well.

In Module two, we explore the best ways to take control of an incident where a child has been hurt and expand the importance of being able to assess the severity in moments. This opens up to details of how to effectively communicate with a young casualty and get the information you need under the worst of circumstances. The importance of scene cleaning and post-accident hygiene is also covered.

In Module Three, we look at the way CPR can be applied to two sets of distinctive age groups, that of children and infants. The module shows how to check for responsiveness and breathing difficulties in patients, and exactly what methods should be applied in each situation. We also examine the uses of an AED and what role it can play in the resuscitation of a child.

In Module Four, we run through the symptoms, causes and treatments of the most common ailments that can affect a child. This includes all-too-frequent occurrences like stings and burns, along with life-affecting conditions such as Diabetes and Anaphylaxis. The module also looks at rarer incidents such as Frostbite and Heatstroke, and exactly what you should do to relieve the child’s condition.

Module Five examines the more complex medical conditions that can seriously affect the well-being of a child. You’ll learn the cause and effect of serious illnesses such as Sickle-Cell Anaemia and Meningitis, as well as understanding exactly what to do if a child suffers from symptoms. We also explain the existence of Febrile Convulsions, along with more recognisable conditions such as Asthma and food poisoning.

Module Six goes into detail as regards the criteria for calling Emergency Services, and the different type of services that exist in the UK via 999 and 112. It also supplies recommendations of the actions that a Paediatric First-Aider can do when waiting for an ambulance.
