The UK law requires that all electrical systems and appliances are to be appropriately maintained to prevent danger to any individual. Therefore, anybody responsible for the maintenance of any electric appliance is also responsible for the safety of those who use it. By carrying out visual and pre-use checks, responsible persons can ensure that no one gets harm while using these appliances at workplace.

This Portable Appliance Testing course will help all individuals learn the technique behind appliance testing, and how to keep themselves and others free from risk. The course is designed to teach those with a rudimentary knowledge of electrical maintenance, how to safely perform equipment checks and confirm that it is entirely safe for general use.

By the end of the course, you’ll know the hazards of electricity in unsafe examples and which appliances need testing. You’ll also learn about the UK legislation that drives PAT, and what to do with faulty equipment.

    Course Curriculum

In Module 1, we define what we mean by PAT testing and other terms used, acquaint ourselves with the relevant legislation and decide who is responsible for the test themselves.

Module 2 will outline the essential components of risk assessment and enable learners to carry out a risk assessment in their workplaces. Risk assessment is a legal obligation for all workplaces, and this module will shed light on how risk is assessed, controlled and monitored.

Module 3 will discuss the actions which are to be taken to reduce and control the risks in workplaces based on the risk assessment.

This final module will cover what a combined inspection and testing involve and the types of equipment which is needed to be assessed.
